Baseball and Softball: Wolverines earn all-state honors

A pair of Nodaway Valley athletes earned all-state recognition in softball and baseball.

Junior Paige McElfish earned second team honors in Class 1A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. McElfish was a third team pick a year ago. 

McElfish batted .505 this year with 50 hits in 99 at bats. She hit 12 home runs and had 13 doubles while driving in 44 runs.

In the circle, McElfish finished 16-12 this year with an ERA of 2.59. She pitched 167 2/3 innings, striking out 202. Opposing batters hit .206 against her.

Class 1A First Team:

Haylee Fortune, Wayne; Jamie Jordan, MSTM; Kaci Sherwood, MSTM; Kylie Sherwood, MSTM.

Second Team:

McElfish, NV; Demi Austin, Wayne; Hannah Sweet, MSTM.

Third Team:

Shantelle Brown, Lenox.

Class 2A First Team:

Carlyn Stanley, I-35.

Second Team:

Kate Stanley, I-35.

Third Team:

Andie Sowers, Pleasantville.

Lamb earned third team honors by the INA. He batted .318 this year with 27 hits in 85 at bats and was instrumental in leading the Wolverines to their first state tournament appearance. Lamb knocked in 28 runs this year.

Lamb was a stalwart on the mound for the Wolverines, especially in post-season play. Lamb finished with an overall record of 8-5 with an ERA of 2.20. Lamb pitched 76 1/3 innings this year with 22 walks and 74 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit .218 against Lamb.
