MUSEUM FEATURE:  What is it?

Last week’s trivia question: What was the name of the first professional baseball player from Adair County and what town did he come from? Answer: Dazzy Vance, National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher was born in Orient in 1891 and played professional baseball for 20 years. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955.

This week’s trivia question: What was the name of the railroad train that ran from Cumberland to Creston and back to Cumberland?

Last week’s picture was that of a Jew’s Harp and it is located in the Masten room of the Adair County Historical Museum.  The Jew’s harp, also known as the jaw harp, mouth harp, Ozark harp, trump, or juice harp, is a lamellophone instrument, which is in the category of plucked idiophones. It consists of a flexible metal or bamboo tongue or reed attached to a frame. The tongue/reed is placed in the performer’s mouth and plucked with the finger to produce a note.

Here is the picture for you to identify this week. Do you know what this week’s picture is, or do you know the answer to the trivia question? If so, give the Adair County Historical Museum a call (641) 743-2232, and let us know. GOOD LUCK!
