The Sports Desk: Wolverines of the Week get extra recognition

Just a couple more weeks and the committee will be back in full force. The second go around for the Wolverine of the Week award will have a little more scrutiny involved with the selection. The paper will now give out a certificate to the winner of the award. The days of giving out three, four and even five awards in one week are probably done with. The certificate is nicely done and should be a nice addition to one’s scrapbook.

One thing that won’t change is that the award is not only for athletics, but any activities and won’t be limited to just those in high school. I’ve already had a middle school coach give me a heads up on a potential winner this fall.

So, rest up committee members. We’ve had a lot of fun dishing out the awards the past few months, but now it gets more serious for us. The award has more meaning than just a line or two in my column. Hopefully, it will go over well.
